The summer season is finally here, and while it's not the summer anyone expected, the adventure continues in St. Ignace. There's much to be discovered in a city with a bounty of green forests and crystal blue lakes. The fresh, open-air invites all residents to re-explore their hometown and spend more time in the great outdoors.
Make the most of these hot, sunny days by creating a safe getaway in your city. Check out these outdoor activities for a fun staycation in St. Ignace.
St. Ignace sits sandwiched in between the shores of Lake Huron and Lake Michigan, two of the five great lakes in North America. Beaches are open, and residents are encouraged to enjoy the summer heat tanning, swimming, or picnicking at one of the many beaches in the surrounding area.
Beaches are open for guests, but strict measures are in place to ensure everyone has a safe and fun experience. Individuals must maintain a six-feet distance between members outside of their household. As well, individuals must wear face masks in all indoor facilities including, bathrooms, changing rooms, and visitor centers. Be sure to review the current protocols to ensure the best outdoor experience possible!
Campfires, smores, and telling ghost stories don't stop! Most St. Ignace campgrounds are open for overnight stay and day-use. Choose from one of five campgrounds to visit: St. Ignace/Mackinac Island KOA, Lakeshore RV Park Campground, Tiki RV Park & Campground, Straits State Park, and Castle Rock Lakefront Campground.
Whether or not you want to spend a night outdoors, these campgrounds have plenty to offer for day-use guests like playgrounds, beaches, and more. And if camping isn't for you, at the hotel, we have a nightly campfire at the hotel along with an onsite playground for the kids - perfect for families to enjoy!
The upper peninsula of Michigan is only a few hours away from your St. Ignace home base and features the best exploring the state has to offer. Take a trip to the Woodland Dunes, where you can find beautiful white dunes that hug the shores of Lake Michigan—a hidden gem amongst already breathtaking scenery. Or head to Northern Paradise and check out the Tahquamenon Falls, one of the largest waterfalls east of the Mississippi River. Maybe you want to visit the quaint North Huron Heritage Villages and hop along its archipelago of small islands.
While you may not be swimming in the Maldives or watching hot air balloons in Turkey, there are plenty of wonders and excitement to be had in your own backyard. Travel in St. Ignace and rediscover the natural beauty it has to offer.
